Outpatient Radiology Pause UPDATE 8.13.25

8.13.25:

Update on Temporary Outpatient Radiology Closure – SERVICES RESUME THURSDAY, AUGUST 14:

We are pleased to report that our temporary pause in new outpatient radiology appointments has been both effective and successful. We are on target to reopen diagnostic imaging on August 14 as planned in our initial statement.

Beginning Thursday, August 14, walk-in services will resume at all outpatient radiology locations. Patients with appointments already scheduled for August 14 and later will also be seen as planned.

While we are not yet able to open new appointment scheduling, our team is working diligently to make that available soon. Patients whose appointments were cancelled between August 6 and August 13 will be contacted directly once future scheduling resumes.

By briefly pausing new outpatient radiology services, our dedicated radiology team was able to catch up on delayed interpretations—ensuring quality and patient safety remain our highest priorities. Accurate, timely radiology reports are essential, and this decision has allowed us to give every patient the careful attention they deserve.

Like many healthcare systems nationwide, Anderson Healthcare continues to feel the impact of a national shortage of radiologists and radiology technologists, creating widespread delays in report turnaround times.

What to Know:

  • Temporary pause dates were August 6 – August 13.
  • August 6 – 13 patients will be contacted once future scheduling resumes.
  • Reopening August 14 for all outpatient diagnostic imaging walk-ins and previously scheduled appointments.
  • The pause affected only non-urgent outpatient imaging—inpatient, emergency, and urgent physician-ordered cases continued without interruption.
  • Outpatient diagnostic mammography remained open during the pause.
  • Clerical staff at each location were on site throughout to assist with patient needs.

We sincerely appreciate our patients’ patience and understanding during this time. We are actively adding resources to our radiology team and remain committed to providing the safe, accurate, and timely care our community deserves.

Patients with questions can contact the Radiology Department at 618-391-6820.

8.6.25:

Like many healthcare systems across the country, Anderson Healthcare is being impacted by a national shortage of radiologists and radiology technologists. This ongoing workforce challenge has created widespread delays in radiology report turnaround times.

Please be advised that most outpatient radiology services (which include Maryville Imaging, Goshen Imaging, Anderson Hospital Imaging Center, and Community Hospital of Staunton) will be temporarily closed from August 6th through August 13th.

This closure only affects non-urgent outpatient imaging—we’re still handling inpatient and emergency needs, as well as any cases our physicians determine to be urgent. Outpatient diagnostic mammography will remain open and continue to operate as usual during this time. Clerical staff will be on location and able to assist with any clerical needs.

We are actively working to resolve these challenges and are hopeful of having additional support in place soon. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to add additional resources to our radiology team.

PLEASE NOTE: All radiology scans through August 5 are in the que. We are only pausing NEW tests.

Temporary Outpatient Radiology Closure Overview

  • There’s a national shortage of both radiologists and radiologic technologists. Many hospitals, including ours, are feeling the pressure of this workforce gap.
  • Right now, we’re seeing delays of 7 days or more in radiology report turnaround times.
  • We are temporarily pausing many outpatient radiology services for one week and evaluating progress on a daily basis.
  • Clerical staff will be on site at our outpatient radiology locations to assist with any clerical needs.
  • This closure only affects non-urgent outpatient imaging—we’re still handling inpatient and emergency needs, as well as any cases our physicians determine to be urgent.
  • We know this is inconvenient for patients, and we’re doing our best to communicate early and reschedule quickly.
  • This pause is about protecting quality and patient safety. Accurate, timely radiology reports are essential, and we want to ensure we’re giving every patient the attention they deserve.
  • If patients have questions, they can call the radiology department directly at 618-391-6820.
